Telling the people’s stories of County Durham, connected by the mighty River Wear

The Riverside project started with the Ice Rink.

WE identified an area of Durham’s history that had not been properly recognised

No exhibitions, documentaries, no permanent record of it being there in the city

We used funding from our commecrial art projects to get a pproject going

we applied for more funding to support our work

We brought the community together for a series of exhibitions, creating a huge online archive of almost-lost photographs by archiving peoples collections, we learned and shared about peoples history, and created a documentary.

This is all about people telling their story.

What is the riverside project?

WE want to help tell the people of county durham’s stories, using our shared history, and a prxomity to the river wear a a point of connection.

The riverside used to be home to world leading industry, massive community hubs, sporting hubs, community centres, businesses and people living their daily lives.

By examining the history of the riverside, we want to get to know what durham is now and what we need do.

WE want to amplify stories that might not make it into typiacl museums and galleries.

Exhibitions, Workshops, commissions, documentation and archiving.
